GOLDILOCKS
Horror Feature - By Jane Smith
Log Line: When a young woman lost in the woods happens upon a cabin with needed survival tools, she risks an encounter with bears to eat and sleep.
Comps: Three Little Pigs, NETFLIX, Hannah, AMAZON STUDIOS
Synopsis: Goldilocks goes into the woods to pick berries and becomes lost on the day when she’s supposed to move with her family to the city. If she doesn’t return soon, she fears her parents will move without her because they’ve recently had a fight where she said she hated them and they told her she was too picky about everything in life.
Wandering in the woods for hours, it starts to get dark and Goldilocks worries she won’t survive the elements overnight. She’s exhausted, hungry and giving up hope when she finds a cabin with an unlocked door. Inside, she notices the breakfast dishes haven’t been cleared and she sees porridge in dishes.
You know the story of Goldilocks so I’m not going to try to write any more of this synopsis, but it should take up most of your one page in size 11 font, easy to read. I like Calibri 11, but you do you. If the one page is a series Pilot, I like to add the series log line after the Pilot Synopsis. I sometimes underline the title or use a fancy font. Make it easy to skim or read fast. Hit the important beats in the synopsis – who is the MC and what’s the problem? What’s the conflict to solving this problem? How does the MC eventually achieve what they wanted? What’s unique about this script?
